About Harsh
Two decades between the classroom and the real world.
My work brings together actuarial education, university teaching, consulting and application development—with one consistent aim: make difficult work clearer and more useful.
Profile
An educator first.
Harsh Vikram Arora is an actuarial educator, mentor, consultant and software developer based in Delhi NCR, India. Over more than 20 years, he has taught actuarial science through live classes, university programmes, focused mentoring and professional training.
His experience includes more than 12,000 live teaching sessions and work with over 3,000 learners across more than 25 countries. He currently serves in university education as an Assistant Professor of Actuarial Science at Amity University.
Harsh has passed eight IFoA actuarial subjects, including the specialist subjects SP9 and SA1. He holds an MSc in Statistics and a postgraduate diploma in Actuarial Economics, is an Associate of the Insurance Institute of India, and is pursuing a part-time PhD in Statistics.
Teaching philosophy
Actuarial education works best when a learner sees both the mathematical structure and the professional purpose behind it. My approach is to explain the idea carefully, test understanding through application and then turn that understanding into a practical next step.
In mentoring, that same approach means listening before advising. The goal is not to prescribe one standard path, but to help each person understand their options, constraints and priorities well enough to make a sound decision.
Professional perspective
Alongside teaching, Harsh has worked on actuarial and technology projects involving IFRS 17, insurance pricing, reserving, pensions, cash-flow modelling and data workflows. His technical toolkit includes Excel/VBA, R, Python, SAS and SQL, as well as the design of learning-management and computer-based-testing systems.
This combination of teaching and practical development informs sessions on technical learning, project portfolios, freelancing, professional communication and technology-enabled actuarial work.
